Gillian wuz here
Posted by Larry Karnowski at October 29, 2002 3:16 PMArgh! Why didn't I go to either of these two shows?!? Gillian Welch's new DVD, coming out November 12th, has live performances taped at the Cat's Cradle, one of my favorite venues in Chapel Hill/Carrboro NC (near my new adopted hometown of Raleigh/Cary) and from the Bijou Theatre, one of my favorite venues from Knoxville TN, my hometown! Argh!!! (How can the Bijou not have a website? I looked all over, but Google found nary a link...)
What was I doing last November that was so damn important that made me miss these shows? (Probably working, so I'll digress...) Oh well, I know what I'll be buying come November 12th. Hey, that's three days before my birthday! Anyone want to pre-order it for me for a Happy 27th?
You are going to the upcoming Campaign against Landmines show, right? Right? I'll be hitting the Tennessee Theater Nov. 9 to see it here.
Posted by: Amy at October 29, 2002 8:34 PMNope, actually, but you're not the first person to get onto me about not going. They just made it too hard out here -- no website, no Ticketmaster... (God I hate Ticketmaster.) I had no clue how to get tickets. I'd love to see Mary Chapin Carpenter, and I always love to see Emmylou, but things are a bit tight this month or so, and I just couldn't justify the expense PLUS the hassle. Of course, I wasn't expecting as much hassle about *not* going as I've got, so maybe I chose poorly.
I am going to several shows in the next couple months though, and I'm going to see Emmylou up close and personal (I hope!) at Merlefest. I have to buy Merlefest tickets the middle of next month, and they ain't cheap...
Gillian isn't playing at the landmines show, is she? What little I could find on the concert made me think she wasn't.
Posted by: larry at October 29, 2002 9:42 PMNo, she isn't, but I was thinking it'll be on your list of why didn't I go to that?
Here in Knoxville it's Emmylou, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Griffin and Bruce Cockburn. And it's going to be at the Tennessee Theatre, which I've always found an excellent place to see a show. (Movies not so much, though.)
