Chickamauga Is Where I've Been, Solitude Is Where I'm Bound
Posted by Larry Karnowski at January 9, 2003 8:39 AMWoohoo! Uncle Tupelo is re-releasing their entire catalog, complete with extra tracks! I had to track down most of these older CDs on eBay last year from a fairly recent Canadian re-release. Looks like I may have to buy them again...
By the way, if you haven't heard their 89-93, An Anthology greatest hits CD, you should. (It was #4 on my top 25 of 2002.) These guys sparked and then fueled the alt-country (whatever that is) movement in the early nineties that then peaked in the late nineties with Whiskeytown and the remnants of Uncle Tupelo -- Son Volt and Wilco. Their first album, No Depression, was the naming inspiration for the alt-country magazine of choice. (No Depression is a great old Stanley Brothers tune that Uncle Tupelo covered. You have to hear it to understand.)
