Cannons Don't Thunder, There's Nothin To Plunder

Boy, I'm in a good mood this morning! Went to my third Jimmy Buffett show last night, drank too much beer, spent too much money, and saw a lot of pretty (albeit strangely dressed) women. Lotsa fun!
Ok, I've got a couple friends who think that Jimmy Buffett isn't a good musician, or that his music is tacky or poorly written. I've got one thing to say to y'all, paraphrasing one of the most famous spokesmen of our time, Eric Cartman, "Screw you guys, I'm going to [the Jimmy Buffett show]!"
I have a lot of fun at these shows, even if I've never "properly" tailgated. Although we came the closest to "proper" this time, with a cooler, some hot wings, and cheeseburgers! The weather was great, in the 70s in freakin' February in freakin' North Carolina! We think Jimmy brought the Florida weather up with him.
As usual, there were lots of crazy people (aka fruitcakes), all dressed in loud shirts and funny hats. We saw a truck with a treehouse-like pirate ship crow's nest in the back, lots of fins on cars, painted cars, grills, lawn chairs, and girls (and guys!) in bikini tops and grass skirts. Why the hell didn't I bring my camera? Oh well, there's always next time.
Which brings me to the topic of the morning -- How long will this last? Jimmy is in his fifties, which is stlil pretty cool. Being a rockin' fifty-something is definitely a goal for me, and seeing Jimmy gives me hope. However, does the magic die at sixty? Hmmm....
Discuss amongst yourselves.
Hey Larry, saw you were added to the RTPBloggers list. Welcome. :)
I saw Jimmy in 94, I think. It was at Buckeye Lake outside of Columbus OH. It rained for three days straight prior. The venue is an outdoor one, a small valley near a lake. Wonderful when dry. A mud pit with three days of rain. And this wasn't too long after the Mudstock nonsense that MTV broadcast.
So there were a few hundred people moshing in the mud, throwing it everywhere, etc.. And it was still raining. So it was cold. And wet. Generally miserable. Jimmy was good, but little else was.
To top it off, the field where we parked (along with a few thousand other cars) was also muddy. It took us 3.5 hours to get out to the parking area. People stuck in the mud would gun it, breeak out and ram right into cars across from them. It was a mess.
Anywaay, if you like Jimmy, you'll love Pat Daily. Find your way up to Put-in-Bay on Lake Erie for one of his shows during the summer. A hell of a good time.

Posted by: Shane at February 7, 2003 2:54 PMShane, God bless ya, that Eric Cartman quote was directed to you, my friend. To reiterate -- "Screw you hippie, I'm going to [the Jimmy Buffett concert]."
Posted by: larry at February 8, 2003 9:58 AMSaw Buffett's disgusting, obscene behavior at the basketball game. All this in front of his young son. What a worthless, one hit loser. The people that worship him ought to get a life.
