Kill My Television

Posted by Larry Karnowski at May 15, 2003 11:02 AM

Alright, hang on to your hats folks... this might be a surprise to some of you. I disconnected my cable TV and Tivo yesterday.

I've watched so little TV in the past few months, and the little that I have watched has been crap. I just got so fed up with TV and my wasting time and money on it that I've decided to just do something else. Anyone want to buy my Tivo?

I had actually disconnected (as in "turned off") my Tivo and digital cable box over two weeks ago. As soon as I got home from Merlefest and walked in the door, I walked over, switched off the cable box, and unplugged the Tivo. I didn't even hardly think about it for the next two weeks. Monday I finally called and canceled my cable and Tivo accounts. The cable guy came by yesterday to disconnect the cable and take back the digital cable box.

(By the way, I'm not insane -- I of course kept my cable Internet access!!!)

What have I done instead of watch TV? Well, I've spent a lot of time volunteering/training at Falls Volunteer Fire Department, I've been practicing a lot more fiddle and mandolin, and I've been reading. I've finished two books in a little over two weeks. I'm having a great time. (The only thing I haven't done, which I really miss, is rock climb!)

I envy you Larry.

You are definitely a stronger man than I am :) I just enjoy TV, but I will agree that there is a LOT of crap on TV. However, the shows I do watch, I enjoy, so my satellite is not going anywhere ;)
