Catching Up and Moving On
Posted by Larry Karnowski at September 9, 2003 9:24 AM
Okay my Truckers and Kickers, I've got a lot to catch up on before I move this site. That's right, I'm going to be moving ISPs (again) in the next week or so, so expect a little flakiness as the DNS entries update. I'm not sure yet when I'll have time to get the move started, but it will probably be this weekend. I'll post a story when I get everything set up, but last time it took parts of the Internet up to three weeks to update (damn Roadrunner DNS servers!).
Alright, but now to the good stuff!
1) Don't forget to mark your calenders, because the new Lyle album is coming out September 30th. Also, you can check out the song title list and see he's included Truck Song and San Antonio Girl from the Cowboy Man album. One more reason not to have to buy that CD.... I already had everything but those two, so I bought them off the iTunes Music Store. (God bless iTunes!)
2) In more good album news, there'll be a new Emmylou album out on September 23rd. Got the song list off of AllMusic.com, but I'm not sure which ones she wrote and which are covers since the composers' names are missing. Oh well.... Check out that picture!
3) They just released the new artist list for Merlefest 2004!! WOOHOO! Okay, you want the highlights? Well, besides the Merlefest regulars (Doc Watson, the freakin' MAN HIMSELF, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, etc, etc), the big names are Nickel Creek, Vince Gill, the Derailers, Roseanne Cash, Lucinda Williams, Donna the Buffalo, David Grisman Quintet, Patty Loveless, Gillian Welch, Kelly Willis, and Tim O'Brien! Some smaller but very notable names are Reeltime Travelers (I love them!), Pine Mountain Railroad, Dry Branch Firesquad, the Gourds, the Kruger Brothers (freakin' rock!), Nashville Bluegrass Band, and Old Crow Medicine Show. Some notable people that were not listed are Emmylou, Alison Krauss, and the Waybacks. The Waybacks did this same thing last year though. They weren't on the official lineup until the month of Merlefest, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. And one last disappointment, but there's still time I guess, is that my hometown gal Robinella and the CCStringband were not mentioned. Oh well.... stilll time..
Let me know if you want tickets!!!!! All this for only $35 per day!!!!
I almost peed myself when I got the Merlefest list. I had to get up from my desk at work and run in circles for a few minutes, I was so happy. Oh man oh man oh man, it's gonna be super awesome. I've already got a place to stay lined up, now debating how (not if) I want to do tickets. Three day? 4-day? 4-day with seats? Ah, so much to ponder. I have a feeling this one's going to be super crowded, but, eh, the more the merrier. Man, I totally can't wait.
Posted by: Stacy at September 9, 2003 3:48 PMI totally recommend the 4-day with reserved seats! It made such a difference last year, especially with the rain! We had a big group, and it was nice to have a "home base" where we knew everyone would eventually show up. Plus, our seats just rocked... 35th row if I remember correctly.
And besides, you freakin' can't beat the price! It ends up being $35 PER DAY. YOU CAN'T BEAT THAT WITH A STICK! No other festival EVER will have the same amount of talent (GOBS) for that low a cost, EVER.
Stacy, you and your hubby (you two'll be married by then won't you?) will have to meet up with my group somewhere at Merlefest. It'll be nice to finally meet y'all in real life. OH, and please email me offline to let me know where y'all are staying. I need some new ideas or else I'll end up at the same cabin we had last time. Nice place, but a bit of a drive from Wilkesboro.
