O Little Town of Knoxville
Posted by Larry Karnowski at December 22, 2003 1:50 AMWell, I'm back in KnoxVegas today, my truckers and kickers, and I had a good drive out. It was bright and sunny, and not too cold. The best part of the day though, was getting to hang out with a good college friend, who's become like a sister to me.
We went and saw Robinella and the CCStringband, and this was only the second time I've seen them. It was at their home bar, Barley's Tap Toom, and the place was slam-packed and jumpin'! They play here every Sunday night now, and evidently it's always packed every Sunday night too!
Barley's was really my kind of place. There's "My Grass Is Blue" WDVX posters on the wall (the same one I've got hanging in my bedroom!), they play Kenny Roby on the loudspeaker between sets, and everyone was pretty cool. I kept running into folks I knew, and many I hadn't seen in almost ten years! Crazy. Lots of fun!
Also, congratulations to Robin and Cruz! Robin is five months pregnant! Congratulations!
And lastly, I re-heard something I've been meaning to find more about -- Scott Miller is going to have a traveling concert -- on the Amtrak Crescent! For those sad individuals among us who don't yet know who Scott Miller is, he's the brilliant ex-singer/songwriter for the V-Roys, who were without a doubt the best band to ever come out of Knoxville, and might arguably be one of the best country rock bands, umm, period. I love em! Anyway, Scott Miller is on his own now, and he rocks!
One of his best-loved songs (especially by me, anyway), is Amtrak Crescent, about the passenger train that runs from New Orleans up through the southern states (including NC and VA) all the way up into the big northern metropolises. Evidently they're going to rent out an entire car (maybe the entire train? not enough details yet) and have concerts along the way! WOOHOO! ALL ABOARD!
So, I'm up late, hacking away at this little Knoxville memoire. Maybe I should spend more school nights up late in coffee shops drinking Irish cream lattes? I'd get more blogging done, I'm sure!
YAY! Larry is home! Can't wait to see you tomorrow night! :)

Posted by: sarah at December 22, 2003 12:03 PMI actually drove by the Karnowski Compound last night... nice decorations! If you can-- bring that wayward brother of yours tomorrow night!
Posted by: Saundra at December 22, 2003 1:26 PMThat Scott Miller concert on a train would be the coolest show of all time, ever. Oh man! That train song on is one of my favorite of his, too. I saw on MetroPulse's Web site (I love that paper, dearly dearly love it) that he's playing a New Year's Eve show there in K-Town. That, too, would be a very cool time. So ... much ... cool.
Posted by: Stacy at December 22, 2003 1:42 PMA link to your blog was just posted on Guitartown's mail list in support of info on the Amtrak Crescent tour (Scott Miller).
May I suggest another link near the top o' the page, if you're going to be the definitive information source on the topic...
