My Brother On The iTunes Store!

Posted by Larry Karnowski at January 10, 2004 11:16 AM

Okay, first off -- I'm a little pissed at Tony, but in a good way. He didn't tell me he had a website for his band, Citizen X. He tells me he did, but I have nary a memory of it.

Even worse, he goes and gets his CD on the iTunes Music Store, and how do I find out? He posts a comment on my blog with a pointer to his website. I surf over there and see a news item that says his stuff just got on the iTMS. But that was on Christmas Eve! I hung out with Tony on Christmas Eve, and, um, the day after, and um, the day after that! And when did he tell me this incredibly awesome news? Yesterday, about an hour after I found out myself! ;-)

Actually, all joking aside, I'm really freakin' stoked about it! I mean, how cool is that? My own little brother, on iTunes! Supah-sweet! Kick-ass!

Go and check him out. He's also got it up on Rhapsody, BuyMusic, MusicNet, and Napster. However, HickoryWind.org does not endorse any digital music download sites other than iTMS, the granddaddy of them all. I'm kinda interested to see if these others are any good or not, though. ;-)

By the way, Tony, I know you got at least two downloads of your album yesterday -- one from me, and one from the Racoon. Unfortunately, you can't spend the $9.99 to get the entire album like you can on most iTunes albums. Instead you have to pay $0.99 for each song, which makes it a <sarcasm>whopping $13.86</sarcasm> to download. But still, where else are most of you going to be able to listen to my brother's band?

Also, as a disclaimer -- my brother is super-cool, and his music is also good. It is not, however, twangy. It's a very genre-bending, quasi-electronic, semi-jazz-based music called experimental music. Some of the songs jump around from Jazz to Punk to Zombie Movie back to Electronica and around again. I'm serious. I used some of the songs as the background for my Halloween party. It's good stuff, though. I especially recommend the first three songs, I Was Abducted By Shadow People, Procession of the Equinox, and Lamentations of the Living Dead, as a good sampling if you don't want to buy the whole album. That last one, despite it's name, has a sweet Stevie Wonder groove half-way through. ;-)

I'm really not sure if it's made it to Napster yet. It was supposed to be delievered at the end of December, but I have yet to find it on there. All the others you mentioned, though, do definitely have it. We also have two new albums that have been done for a little over a month (getting closer to two months, now) that should be available soon.

Sorry for the shameless self promotion on this one...

Shameless self promotion is almost as sexy as programming MacIntosh applications. Defintely sexier than a Neverwinternights hack.

For what its worth, I don't see it listed anywhere on the Wal-Mart music download site.

I was just checking it out on ITMS and I gotta say this really is cool. Now my question is, has Larry gotten Tony into the world of blogging yet? I looked at Citizen X's website, but it left me wondering more about the people and events "Behind the Music"...

Larry is the rest of your family musically-inclined like you and Tony?

Well, glad you asked. My Dad plays a lot of guitar and is also the bass player for a Blues band back in TN called Faded Blues (http://www.fadedblues.com/). My uncle plays drums, was a big inspiration for my brother, and sometimes plays with my Dad's band. And my Grandma has been the organ player at her church longer then I've been alive, I think!

really, the events "Behind the Music" are so monumentaly mundane that I would hate to bore anyone with them. we are trying to spice the website up, though. we need more material on there... hopefully one day...
