KnoxVegas (Is a Stupid Band Name) Mix

Posted by Larry Karnowski at January 22, 2004 8:50 AM

Okay, this mix has a bit of a story behind it. First off, you might notice a lot of these songs are recycled from earlier mixes I've made. That's because this is a "songs I'd like to play" mix for the "band" I play with. (I use that term loosely, meaning mostly a "group of friends who jam regularly.") I deliberately stayed away from traditional Bluegrass, since I'm always up for playing that. I've instead tried to get some Bluegrass or old-time-inspired new music. (Okay, some are very old songs, but done in a new way.)

The mix name is an evil jab at James, who's always trying to come up with band names. He heard me call Knoxville "KnoxVegas" at some point (an old, old K-town joke), and he decided it was a great band name. He's been going on and on about it, and instead of doing the "good" thing and just telling him I didn't like it, I decided instead to burn CDs of this mix, with this name on each, and pass them out to our "bandmates." Ha! (It is, after all, Evil Larry month, is it not? Got you again, Trebeck!)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, this is, right now, the "best of the best" of all of my favorite songs. Almost all of these are five-star selection in my iTunes library!

Comments

Kickin' mix, Larry! Thanks for yet more inspiration for furthering my iTunes mischief.

Have you heard Lyle's cover of "Friend of the Devil"? I'm thinking the answer is "yes," but if not, hear it you must. (You'll have to get creative, though -- iTunes doesn't have it.)

NO! I've never heard it! More's the pity! You're the second person to tell me about it, and I can't find it anywhere. (Amy was the first.) BIG SIGH.
