"WAS A DARKEN MOON ON THE ^TH OF JUNE IN A KENWORTH HAULING LOGS."
If I knew you wanted a copy of "Convoy" I would have sent it. I think you would like The Highwaymen's self titled CD if you can find it and don't already own a copy.
Update on the "Jolene" cover issue: I'm told that the White Stripes also did a cover, on some EP or something. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find it, but I'm betting it's probably interesting (in a good way).
Posted by: Stacy at March 3, 2004 10:18 AMOh man! I'm down for that. ;-) As long as Meg doesn't sing it. I guess it's a strange gender-bender for Jack to sing it, but at least he can sing.
Posted by: larry at March 3, 2004 11:09 AMJack sings it. I have an .mp3 copy on my home computer. Maybe, just maybe, I'll let you listen to it someday. It's good - the genderbend works.
And, why no love to the Clerks soundtrack? I'm always pleased when I dig it back out of my collection. Ecksssssellent driving music.
Posted by: Amy at March 3, 2004 11:35 AMWhite Stripes doing Jolene? I had to rush home at lunch and track that ditty down. I was thinking that Jack's plaintive voice would lend itself very well to that kick-ass pleading song. It wasn't bad- but I think it loses something with a man singing it. The whole woman-to-woman, bearing your soul, on-your-knees-begging aspect of those lyrics is a big part of its charm I think. It didn't break my heart as much to hear Jack sing it. Just my two cents. Larry, have you heard Robin sing Jolene? Good stuff. Of course, it's a treat to hear Robin sing just about any song.
Posted by: valerie at March 3, 2004 11:13 PMRobinella doing Jolene? Damnit. I'm telling you, this blog o' mine is just becoming a source of people telling me songs I have to track down or hear. (heh!) I'm guessing Robin hasn't recorded it, so I'll have to see it live. Another trip to Knoxville then, is it, to see Robin on a Sunday night? Oh well, my Mom'll hate that! ;-)
Valerie, the first Sunday you and Kip are back in the States, I'll be at the Robinella show with y'all in Knoxville, deal? You'd better hurry before Robin has that kid and takes a hiatus!
Posted by: larry at March 4, 2004 9:02 AMBetter make it the second Sunday - jet lag and whatnot. We'll volunteer you to hold the kid while she's singing :)
