Denied: New Sarah Harmer CD

Posted by Larry Karnowski at March 9, 2004 9:35 AM

Damn! I was sure that Sarah Harmer's new CD was coming out today. I don't know why, just wishful thinking I guess. I checked her website and the email from her mailing list, and I was completely wrong. It's another two weeks! March 23rd! Argh!

Oh well, at least she's pre-released a single on the iTMS. I can listen to the 30 second sample. I'm not sure I want to buy the song yet or not, since I know I'm buying the CD in a couple of weeks. Oh heck, who'm I kiddin? I know I'll get it.

Also, I'm jonesing for the Rolling Stone's Sticky Fingers. I might run by the record shop over lunch to pick that one up anyway. It's got Wild Horses and Dead Flowers, among others. Pretty much the peak of their country-rock phase, I think. I've been listening to Townes Van Zandt's version of Dead Flowers on the Big Lebowski soundtrack, and it's making me want to get the original Stones' version. Damn good!

Other good country-ish Stones songs that come to mind... Far Away Eyes (on Some Girls, I think) and Country Honk from Let It Bleed (kick-ass fiddle on that one).

But wait! I have consolation for you! No Depression magazine released a CD called "What It Sounds Like" today. Here's a track listing with some background on each song:

I speak of Allison Moorer, and of Whiskeytown (which you already have, but still), and of Neko Case, Johnny Cash and more.

Read and obey. And be tided over 'til the 23rd.
