Damn Blog Spammers
Posted by Larry Karnowski at March 19, 2004 8:42 AMSo this morning I had six blog spams! Blog spam is where some evil creep has a program that looks for old entries on a blog like mine and posts comments with specific keywords and links. Sneaky bastards. Even Doczilla had one, his first. I took a card from Strongbad and deleted it for you, Ben.
What these jerks are trying to do is basically a distributed "Google bomb" attack. Okay, for those of you at home -- Google ranks pages by seeing how many people link to it. For example, if you type in my name, you'll see this site as the first hit, as you should. That's because enough people have linked my name to this site that Google figures this is an important site when looking for my name. Like I said, as it should be.
However, you can create a Google bomb by having sites (usually blogs) deliberately link a name to a particular site. As an example, the most famous, and I think the first, was when a blogger had the words "No. 1 talentless hack in the whole world" bombed to point to his friend's site as a joke. Harmless fun, right?
Now, enter the evil spammers. They figure if they have enough comments on enough blogs linking the names of major medicines, or porn names, or whatever to their site, that their ranking on Google will go up. Well, they're right. It does. But it's evil. But this site won't help, so go away.
You tell em Renso!! Damn thoes evil spammers!!
I am so sick of getting junk e-mail! when I open my mailbox and it say's I have 16 messages, usually 4 or 5 are really for me. I don't need to enlarge my Penis, thank you, and I don't want to be set up on a blind date! I never had this problem untill we switched to charter. thanks for letting me vent! Have a good weekend. lub u
Way to fight 'em, Larry. Keep up the good work defending those of us who know NOTHING about computers.
