Does My Ring Burn Your Finger

By Buddy & Julie Miller

When I gave you my heart
It was not what you wanted
Now the walls say your name
And the pictures are haunted

Does my ring burn your finger
Did my love weigh you down
Was a promise too much
To keep around

I remember your words
And I can't keep from crying
I could never believe
That your kisses were lying

Was there something from the past
Buried in a shallow grave
Did you think that it was too far gone to save

Please tell me baby
Please tell me now
You say that I should just go on
Now please tell me how

Now it's just me and the night
And I'm so broken-hearted
I just wait in the dark here
For my dearly departed

Did my ring burn your finger
Did my love weigh you down
Was a promise too much
To keep around

source of the lyrics

Ooohh, this is a spooky one! The Buddy & Julie harmonies give me chill bumps! And the nightmarish, horror movie language... creepy! I love it! Great break-up song!

One thing you don't get from the lyrics though, is the bitterness and anger. The lyrics read kinda sappy and sobby, but you should hear Buddy sing them. He sounds really pissed off, and it speaks volumes of subtext.

Pick this one up on the new No Depression: What It Sounds Like collection. I gotta get me some Buddy and Julie Miller stuff. I've enjoyed hearing bits and pieces of their stuff on other people's albums, and I caught the last half of their show when they played in Chapel Hill a year or so ago. I was really impressed. Their harmony is very unique.

I LOVE this song! Leanne Womac did a country rendition it a couple of years ago.
