Grand Theft Parsons, Watched
Posted by Larry Karnowski at December 20, 2004 10:28 AMAnd not really enjoyed. The acting was so-so, the writing was iffy, and the over-all direction was nyah. Just not a great movie. The best part was Johnny Knoxville's Sin City jean jacket, which I really want now. Shaneo sat through it with me, and he found this jacket patch on eBay.
In short -- pretty much nothing in the movie happened that way in real life. Gram Parsons is barely in the movie at all, and when he's spoken of it's as a Rock-God figure like Elvis. Let me assure you that Gram died in relative obscurity. He was a musician's musician. It was only after Emmylou got famous and cited him as a mentor that he was really brought into the mainstream, if even then.
I think I'll get the soundtrack though, even if it is $30. It's got 22 songs. Hmmm, looks like Amazon has to import it. It might be better to just track down the individual songs from iTunes. I bet I have all the Gram stuff already. It's the other songs I really liked that I want.
Wait wait! Do you know where that would be imported from? Because if it's Japan, I can get it here and mail it to you and still stay under $30, probably. Just say the word if you want me to look for it. I could use an excuse to make the trip to Tower Records ... :)
