Merlefest 2005: Another Year Done Gone

Well, I'm home, and I'm too darn tired to write much. Suffice it to say I'm in that post-partem-Merlefest depression funk. I have to wait another year to feel that good again. Sigh.

I've got so much to tell you! I'll write up several articles this week. However, to tide you over... two things:

1. Steve Earle and Alison Moorer are an item! He played with her on both her Austin Stage and Cabin Stage sets! On the Cabin Stage (the set I saw), she said "my boyfriend's on the stage." Go Steve, you dog!

2. Thad Cockrell and Skip Matheny took Tony Rice's spot this morning on the Cabin Stage after the big Doc Watson and Nashville Bluegrass Band gospel set, a Sunday morning Merlefest staple. I was very excited to see it, but I think they were rather intimidated. I think Thad thought he should keep it "solemn" since it was Sunday morning, and unfortunately there was no Thad-rocking to be had. Sigh.

Well, I came to your blog hoping to see Merlefest pics. Looking forward to them soon....

Merlefest was awesome as always, and we all have the post-funk too.

Buddy Miller was probably my favorite... only recently discovered him. Man, oh man! It was good to see Thad. I thought he played very well w/Skip. Agree about the Sunday morning, toned down/"solemn" thing, but any Thad at all was great for me.

Okay, I can already hear the rousing round of "boos" that will accompany this statement, but... I didn't take any pictures at Merlefest this year. I know, I know... but then I was traveling with three great photographers/photo bugs, and I felt a little intimidated.

No, okay, I was just lazy. ;-) But I'll be glad to post anything they send me!

I do wish I'd gotten some pictures of the jam camp though. Big mistake. It's hard to carry a camera around with a fiddle and bow...
