Best of 2004, #22: Sweetwater by Tres Chicas
Posted by Larry Karnowski at May 25, 2005 7:32 AMThe second local Carolina act after Tift Merritt to make the Top 30, the Tres Chicas are one of my new favorite local bands. I saw them for the first time this year at a house concert in Durham, and boy did they put on a show!
Sweetwater is the title track off their debut album. It was produced by none other than my favorite producer, Chris Stamey, another local.
The three women, Tonya Lamm, Lynn Blakey, and Caitlin Cary are all from other local bands or have solo careers, but together they're better than all their other acts combined I think. Tonya and Lynn play guitar with Caitlin on fiddle with different musicians filling in on drums and bass. If you like female vocals, especially beautiful harmonizing, this is the album for you.
Tres Chicas played in DC right before I moved and I didn't go. I still have a sore spot from where I kicked myself for that one.
