Best of 2004, #18: Seven Deadly Sins by Flogging Molly

How do you get my attention? Have a California punk band with an Irish-accented lead singer, fiddles, accordians, driving electric guitars, and earth-shaking drums play a song about being pirates! This song is THAT good!

These guys are reminiscent of the Pogues and Black 47. They have a strong sense of the underlying Americana themes --not really on this song, but definitely on others on the same album. I also assume they must throw one kick-ass live show! I hope they come through Raleigh soon.

An interesting side note to this song is that another song, Factory Girls, on the same disc, Within A Mile Of Home, is co-sung by Lucinda Williams. That song is straight-up Americana with a punk/Irish flavor.

I can't believe no one's commented on this yet -- YES.. it's PIRATES. I'm not lying -- go and check it out!
