No Depression 10th Anniv Issue
Posted by Larry Karnowski at August 24, 2005 7:00 AMWow! First off, a big "sorry" to Stacy, as I'm sure it'll be a couple of days before you get yours in Japan. Too bad. Cause it looks great!
Well the first thing I noticed was the beautiful Sara Watkins on the front cover. Oh yeah, the rest of Nickel Creek are on it too. The second thing I noticed was the new logo, which, to be honest, really isn't all that different from the old logo. It's close enough to be familiar, but then again, it's so close I kinda wonder why even bother changing?
The next thing I noticed was that everyone is in this issue. I mean... I literally started looking for Stacy and Sean in there since everybody else in the freakin' world either has a photo, article blurb, or advertisement in it! It feels great, though, everybody putting such an effort to get into this one. It makes the magazine feel like an extended family, which anyone who reads our fair site knows I think is the entire freakin' point of Americana music anyway! It's just one more way to see it -- in print!
And I want to give a big shout-out to the folks at AmericanaRoots.com -- your color ad is beautiful! I think we at HickoryWind.org are uniquely qualified to appreciate it, since we considered an ad ourselves -- briefly. (They're mui caro!) But seriously, Gregg, it looks great!
I'm also tickled to see ads for Ryan Adams' and Robinella's new CDs, the article on Nickel Creek, an article on Stacy's Savior -- the mighty Jay, an article about the Greencards, and the great retrospective showing cover art and details of each issue of No Depression over the past ten years! You can really feel the love they poured into it! Great work folks!
And I'm very happy to report that -- so far -- our worries of the Americana leaking slowly out of our favorite mag like helium from a balloon seem very unfounded. I think we're good to go for a while now!
Now just to sit down and read for a while....
Days? DAYS??? If I get my ND while it's still August, I'll be amazed. But I will check my mailbox every day with hope in my little heart -- sounds like this issue kicks even more ass than I figured it would. Hurry, hurry, hurry, Mr. Mailman! Seriously, hurry, or I'm going to have to hurt you. Ahem.
