Another week, another nifty compilation CD featuring some very worthy Americana artists. This time it's a release from the Austin City Limits Festival (which one day, one great day, I will get to attend). From the 2004 festival, we have:

Pixies -- Debaser
Dashboard Confessional -- Hands Down
Franz Ferdinand -- Darts of Pleasure
Rachael Yamagata -- Be Be Your Love
Los Lonely Boys -- Crazy Dream
Blind Boys Of Alabama -- Walk In Jerusalem
Josh Rouse -- It's the Nighttime
Broken Social Scene -- Anthems for a 17 Year Old Girl
The Neville Brothers -- Streets are Callin'
Shelby Lynne -- Your Lies
Drive-By Truckers -- The Day John Henry Died
Cake -- Wheels
My Morning Jacket -- The Way That He Sings
Calexico -- Alone Again Or
Ben Harper -- Brown Eyes Blues
Trey Anastasio -- First Tube

Yeah, sounds pretty good, eh? I like the song selection here. I'm pretty familiar with a lot of these artists, but they didn't go for the obvious songs. Sure, they could have picked "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys, but we've all heard that, so why not delve a little with a non-hit single? Sounds good to me.

The full list of notable releases next Tuesday:

Various artists -- Austin City Limits Festival (Rhino)
Bob Dylan -- No Direction Home (Columbia/Legacy) This is the 2 CD companion to a documentary on Bobby D by Martin Scorcese. It's also the seventh installment in the Bob Dylan bootleg series. So there.
Death Cab for Cutie -- Plans (Atlantic)
Eric Clapton -- Back Home (Warner Bros.)
Hackensaw Boys -- Love What You Do (Nettwerk)
Marty Stuart -- Soul's Chapel (Universal South) This is his first stab at a gospel album, I hear. Could be interesting. Could suck. But could be interesting ...
Wayne Scott -- This Weary Way (Full Light) Wayne is the pappy of the amazing Darrell Scott, who produced and plays on the album along with Tim O'Brien and Guy Clark. Quite a list of endorsements, eh?

As always and ever, if there's anything I've left off, well, there's the comments thingy below ... you know what to do.

Just when you think Austin City Limits can't get any cooler, they acknowledge that "Debaser" is the best Pixies song ever. It is also my personal theme song. I'll leave it up to you whether I relate more to "girl is so groovy" or "slicing up eyeballs."

Dabase totally ROX rocks! Plus, I now know (in theroy) how to play it on our bicthin ax! I was in fact, just playing it. I'm trying to figure out how to blend it into Celine's "My Heart Will Go On". Yes, I really am.

Oooh, that IS an excellent review, georgiaboy (I say this as a Georgia girl)! Thanks! In addition to being informative and tantalizing, the review also has introduced me to a new, excellent phrase that I wish I coulda thought of first: "This shit is crisp like morning lettuce." Brilliant! :)
