The (New) Old Home Place
Posted by Larry Karnowski at August 30, 2005 7:00 AMWell, I've finally moved in and moved out. My very first house -- all my own -- I'm still just amazed. I need a name for it, but nothing is coming to mind.
The old place was the "House of Bastardville," and with my roommate Ben and me there, it was aptly named. There's been talk of calling this new place another HoB, since Ben's moved in here too... my "tenant"... but I feel weird calling my first actual home since leaving the real Old Home Place -- my folks' house -- something so silly.
I want to name this place something more classy, traditional, dare I say it -- "Americana-y". But again, nothing's coming to mind. Any ideas y'all? (And this isn't a vote -- I'm taking my first house way too seriously to leave naming it up to you people!)
Hmmm. Name. Don't know.
Does your new home have a flashing neon sign?
Posted by: Amanda at August 30, 2005 7:12 AMCongrats! Took me thirty years to buy my first place after I left the farm, living pillar to post (or truck to trailer). Of course you'll have to name it yourself, so much of a name is the feel of the place.
Posted by: Jim Pipkin at August 30, 2005 7:25 AM"Bluegrass Bordello" has a nice ring to it.
Posted by: Sharon at August 30, 2005 1:30 PMOooh, I like Sharon's idea! I second the nomination for "Bluegrass Bordello." Even though it's not a vote. Pout.
Posted by: Stacy at August 30, 2005 9:39 PMAnd this, my dear friends, is why it isn't a vote! ;-) (Although I definitely like "Bluegrass Bordello," though...)
Posted by: larry at August 31, 2005 10:04 PMHey, I have to live there too! We have to give equal time to Barry Manilow Bordello if you're gonna make me live in a place with "Bluegrass" in the name. (grin)
Posted by: Ranger Rick at September 2, 2005 4:31 PMAgain, let me reiterate -- not a vote... ;-)
