Tokyo City Nights
Posted by Stacy Chandler at September 27, 2005 12:25 AMI have in my hand the Japanese version of Ryan Adams' "Jacksonville City Nights." The good news is it has THREE bonus tracks, including one exclusive to Japan (the other two bonus tracks are on the UK version, too, I think). Reviews of those coming soon. The other good news is, in a weird karmic twist, the Tower Records in Shibuya was playing this CD as I shopped for it -- and it sounds, um, pretty awesome. Yes. I think this one will not be a dud.
The bad news about my nifty Japanese version of this CD is I paid $25 for it. Those bonus tracks had better be good! Oh, and the other bad news, if you're Ryan Adams, is that in Japan they file English-language CDs alphabetically according to first name, so Ryan Adams is nestled on the third floor (rock), right next to, oh dear, Ryan Cabrera. Ouch.
Unrelated good news: On the way back to work from Tower I picked up some tempura for lunch, which consists of not-wholly-identifiable-but-presumably-edible things battered and fried and served on rice. After some cautious poking and sniffing, I nibbled a narrow green bit of fried tempura goodness to find -- good lord! -- it's okra! Or very okra-like. So now I have had Japanese fried okra, which sounds like something Ryan Adams would maybe write a song about.
Tempura frightens me. I'll eat sushi of almost any kind, but tempura is scary. Raw over deep fried? I know it's contrary to my Southern nature, but it's true.
Posted by: larry at September 27, 2005 4:52 PMThat IS strange, my man. Tempura is about as close to Southern food as you can get here in the land of the rising sun. Tempura is your friend!
Posted by: Stacy at September 27, 2005 9:44 PMYou got 3 bonus tracks!!
I only got 2 for my 14GBP / 25USD copy from HMV.
(Worth every penny - or cent)
