New releases: Nov. 8, 2005
Posted by Stacy Chandler at November 6, 2005 8:48 AMBetter late than never, right? Sorry to be a little late with the new releases list. But your wait shall be rewarded with the following bit of hilarity, a little somethin' somethin' I really, truly never thought I'd say, especially not in public. Here goes:
Ahem.
I am really, really eager to hear the new Neil Diamond CD, one of this week's releases. Yeah, you heard me. Neil Diamond. Yes, that one. But his new CD -- on which he worked with a certain Mr. Rick Rubin (who, you'll remember, worked with a certain Mr. Johnny Cash on the American Recordings CDs) -- has a lot of buzz around it. Which is all well and good, but early reviews are insisting -- insisting! -- that "12 Songs" really truly lives up to, maybe even exceeds, the hype. I just gotta check it out.
In other news, my dear husband -- he who introduced me to Sixteen Horsepower and the Pixies (but also to Powerman 5000 and Alabama Thunder Pussy ...) -- had a little mountain bike accident this weekend and now has a VERY sore shoulder and wrist, whole arm in a sling 'til we can get him to the doctor tomorrow. While we're waiting for that (and therefore while we're waiting for a prescription for some sweet, sweet pain medication), anyone know any good music for bones to knit by?
Your (very paltry) list of new releases for Tuesday, Nov. 8:
Neil Diamond -- 12 Songs (Sony)
various artists -- Music from the O.C., Mix 5 (Warner Bros.)
Don't make fun of me -- I've never even seen the show. But it has a reputation for good soundtracks, and this one caught my eye with bands like the Shout Out Louds (love that name), Kasabian and Gorillaz.
Tom Sauber -- Carve That Possum (Copper Creek)
Curly Seckler -- Down in Caroline (Copper Creek)
One of the newly announced Merlefest artists, this record features special guests the likes of Doc Watson, John Carter Cash and many more.
With you on the Neil. You can listen to the new one here : http://www.myspace.com/neildiamond
(Not illegal, Neil-approved. All legit and above board.)

Posted by: Jim Pipkin at November 6, 2005 2:16 PMAlso, if you're a Canadian -- Sarah Harmer has a new BLUEGRASS album coming out called "I'm a Mountain." I'm going to have to order this one from somewhere in CA and have it delivered. It's not being released in the USA until Feb of next year. What's up with that?
That's right, Sarah doing an original BLUEGRASS album. I gotta hear that.
