Sugar Hill is just owning this week, hitting us with three must-haves all on one day. Have mercy!

New releases of note for Tuesday, March 14, 2006:
Scott Miller & the Commonwealth -- Citation (Sugar Hill)
There's just nothing much to say here because it's obvious this one's going to be good. I mean, duh.
Bryan Sutton -- Not Too Far From the Tree (Sugar Hill)
Subtitled "A Collection of Guitar Duets with Heroes and Friends," this CD has both in spades. You could also call it a Merlefest project, seeing as how almost all of the names listed on the cover have been at recent Merlefests: You got your Doc Watson, your Norman Blake, Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas, Earl Scruggs and Ricky Skaggs.
Sean Watkins -- Blinders On (Sugar Hill)
Nickel Creek guitarist's third solo outing. It's so nice when a band can make room for solo projects and make it a win-win situation, don't you think? The band is better for each individual's experiences, the individual is better for the band's experience, and the audience is better for having more music to bug out to. Nickel Creek -- and the solo work of Chris Thile and Sean Watkins -- is a great example of having your cake and eating it too. Delicious cake!
Willie Nelson -- You Don't Know Me: The Songs of Cindy Walker (Lost Highway)
You may not know her name, but you may well know her songs. And if you don't, Mr. Willie Nelson is here to help you out. I'm really hoping he does more projects like this one in the future, not so many like the whole Jessica Simpson horribleness. Shudder.

Comments

If I can ever stop listening to the new Neko Case, I may think about picking up the new Sean Watkins. I was just wondering the other day, "I wonder when Sean or Chris will release another solo album." Hopefully Chris will release another album soon, too.

That gets me thinking... 30 years from now, long after Jessica Simpson realizes that pop music is not a life long career... with a few exceptions, like Madonna (even she is coming to grips... learning from Cher). Will she attempt to sing the Willie Nelson song book? Something tells me we'll still be hearing from Ms. Simpson for much, much longer than is humanly tolerable.

I see a blasted landscape, populated by zillions of cockroaches, worshipping Cher and Jessica as deities.
