Podcast, Volume #3: Heartworn Highways DVD & CD
Posted by Larry Karnowski at March 22, 2006 5:30 PMDamn... well, it took an act of Congress, but I finally got the third installment of James' and my audio madness online. We don't, ahem, review, this critical piece of Americana history, as much as worship it.
Well, we definitely bash a certain someone right out of the gate... please bear with us. No worries though, as this is likely to be one of the best albums of 2006. Hands. Down.
I suggest you subscribe to one of the podcast feeds (look over on the sidebar, just beneath the authors list), but if you wanted to just download one directly, here are the links for the enhanced AAC and standard MP3 versions.
Enjoy!
Do you mean the best CD of 1975?
Posted by: Aging Hipster at March 24, 2006 10:35 AMWell two things -- one, we were wrong, this documentary was filmed in 1976, and two -- the album has never been out before. It's not a reissue. So no, it's defnitely in the running for the best album of *2006*!
Trust me. ;-)
Posted by: larry at March 24, 2006 10:53 AMAny comments on "Townes Van Zandt:Be Here To Love Me?" I assume some of the same characters appear in both films. I haven't seen it yet but I have the DVD in hand for tonight's viewing.
Posted by: Aging Hipster at April 5, 2006 5:49 PMNope, haven't watched that one yet. (Stressing the word "yet".)
Posted by: larry at April 5, 2006 5:54 PMThe Townes film is good, good and depressing. Not to say it isn't worth seeing but he was truly a tortured soul from high school until his too early but not unexpected death. I saw Townes live and he was a mess-the future was easy to see. Dusty Hill (brother of Rocky Hill/ZZ TOP) came onstage with Townes and I thought we were in for a special show. Townes was drunk/drugged well beyond the point of singing or really talking. Dusty shook his head and rambled off-stage with his guitar. Twones butchered a few songs then he left the stage to a stunned but understanding audience.
New York Dolls, in my estimation, is a better film/documentary. I'm not rating the Dolls over Townes but the documentary had a surreal quality as you watch the resurrection of Arthur "Killer" Kane and the reunion of the band in 2004.
Rock on!
Alt country tie in from previous post:
"When I say I'm in luv, you best believe I'm in luv,
L-U-V" .....................................Ryan Adams right? Nope, that's from David Johansen/New York Dolls: "Looking For A Kiss".
