Podcast, Volume #5: Interview with Pete "Dr. Banjo" Wernick from Merlefest
Posted by Larry Karnowski at May 8, 2006 10:30 PMI was lucky enough to pull aside Pete Wernick (also known as "Dr. Banjo," best-known as the banjo player for Hot Rize and a long-running president of the IBMA) and his wife Joan Wernick one night during their Merlefest Jam Camp to talk a little about Bluegrass music, how to play it, and why we should play it. We talked about Pete's Jam Camps and Jam DVDs, and why and how they are trying to get the joy of playing music together out to the masses. If you've not picked up your instrument in a year or two, or if you've never picked one up but always secretly wanted to, I highly recommend you get a little instruction from these folks! Pick up their Jam DVDs or by all means attend a camp, but whatever you do... pick up that instrument... go get in a jam!

Thanks for sending this out....great interview! You should know, however, that although I have a Mac computer with the latest OS-X 10,4 "Tiger" operating system, which includes "iTunes," When I clicked on the link for the "enhanced" version, all I got was a sheet of gobbledegook. The other link worked fine on the Quick Time player.
I am currently trying to get all my photos and recordings into files that i can send out to all.
Cheers,
Gene

Posted by: larry at May 9, 2006 10:52 AMVery nice interview! I especially liked the Aspen tree forest and botanical garden references.
I have to say that I hadn't thought that there was a way to make Merlefest more enjoyable than it already is, but attending the Jam Camp and meeting Pete and Joan was icing on the already sweet cake. They are awesome!
Posted by: frank at May 9, 2006 2:03 PMVery nice, thank you for posting this. I have all three DVD's and I think they are great!
