I Think He Moves Me

I am just beginning my exploration of the world of Chip Taylor. I first heard tell of duets with Lucinda Williams, sniffed them out, was blown away. Larry saw him and partner Carrie Rodriguez at Merlefest and pronounced them "not bad at all." I say: love it. I am intrigued by his voice, and the songs have really stuck in my head. More perhaps when I get a good listen to the albums.

Today I just want to recommend you check out his website. Chip has taken to the brave new world of teh internets with gusto -- including podcasts and song samples. I learnt something else tooling around that site: Chip Taylor wrote "Wild Thing." Yes, the Troggs song. That, I would never have guessed.

You know, I remember hearing him and Carrie singing "Wild Thing" from the Cabin Stage at Merlefest while I was wondering around the food tent. I wondered, "WTF?" I had no idea he had written it!

I also saw them do "Wild Thing" at an in-store. Carrie will burn your pants off singing the song with a sultry voice that you wouldn't think could come from such a warbler

I love the Chip/Carrie collaboration! He's such a great songwriter, and her voice ... damn! Those two seem mismatched on paper, but on stage and on CD it works like a charm. For anyone wanting to check out their recordings, you can't go wrong with "Let's Leave This Town," the title track being the highlight.
