It's easy this week, folks: All you've got to worry about, really, is getting your hot little mitts on the new Chatham County Line release as fast as possible.

I can say this with certainty, because I was able to get my little mitts on it weeks ago when the nice boys in CCL brought some copies along to sell at Merlefest. So let me tell you: "Speed of the Whippoorwill" is a must have. The title track alone is worth the price and trouble -- it's one of the best songs I've heard this year, and considering all the goodness 2006 has brought us already, that's no small honor. The rest of the CD is outstanding as well. And that's all I have to say about that -- a full review is coming soon. But just trust me. Trust me. Go get "Speed of the Whippoorwill" as soon as the stores open -- you won't be sorry.

New releases for Tuesday, May 30, 2006:
Chatham County Line -- Speed of the Whippoorwill (Yep Roc)
Kris Kristofferson -- Live from Austin, TX (New West)
From a 1981 Austin City Limits performance
Ralph Stanley -- Distant Land to Roam: Songs of the Carter Family (Sony)
Dave Alvin -- West of the West (Yep Roc)
A tribute to Alvin's favorite California songwriters

Long before Uncle Tupelo/No Depression/alt country, etc., Mr. Dave Alvin wrote "American Music" for his band, the Blasters. American Music..Americana Music..Americana. Pretty simple. Buy his new disc, and all the old ones and then all the Blasters stuff too!
