New releases: July 11, 2006

No color commentary from me today. My department's workspace (at my day job, mind you -- music rants don't pay the bills, unfortunately) just got moved to a part of the building with windows, so I'm too busy daydreaming to stare at the computer for long. This move means this job becomes my first ever with a window view. I'm still living the cubicle life, but at least now I can see whether it's day or night. I can also see into the Japanese bar across the street, and man, am I thirsty for some Kirin.

Ahem.

Anyway, before I lose focus any further, here are the new releases of note for Tuesday, July 11, 2006 (or thereabouts, depending on what continent you call home):
Chris Knight -- Enough Rope (Emergent/92e)
The Great Divide -- A Great Divide (Frenetic)
Steve Earle -- Live at Montreaux 2005 (Eagle)
John Gorka -- Writing in the Margins (Red House)
Robert Earl Keen -- Live at the Ryman (Koch)
Sufjan Stevens -- The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album (Asthmatic Kitty)
Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys -- Turntable Matinee (Yep Roc)

OK...somebody on Hickory Wind, please, please, please say something about The Derek Trucks Band. They actually released a live DVD today of their album "Songlines" (which was released back in February). I saw these guys live in Athens, GA a couple of months ago and they ripped my face off (I mean that in a good way). I am picking up the DVD today, but I have actually already seen this on HDNet a couple of weeks ago and it is absolutely amazing. So, please, Larry, Sean, Stacy...anyone, pick this thing up and tell us what you think.
