Going to the IBMA Awards & Festival -- I Think...

Posted by Larry Karnowski at July 17, 2006 9:00 PM

So I just signed up for an IBMA membership and tickets to their fan festival at the end of September. I want to get tickets to the awards ceremony that same week, but I think you have to be a member.

I'm saying "I think" a lot in this post, because... well, being a professional web user interface developer, I can say with authority -- the IBMA web interface sucks. Man oh man is it confusing. It has forms upon forms upon forms, with convoluted back-and-forth instructions. Plus they say nifty things like "Give us your credit card number but we're not going to show you your final bill." Okay, I'm paraphrasing a tad, but that's pretty much what they're saying.

My professional estimate? I'm betting all this form does is send an email to some poor soul who has to wade through all the crazy information and determine what each of us festival attendees really wanted, and charge us appropriately. Problematic? Prone to errors? I'm willing to take that bet.

So, God willing and the creek don't rise, I'll be sitting my butt down in my fanciest suit to see Del McCoury win more awards. He's won like three years in a row, right? However, knowing computers and how they work, I'm not going to take anything for granted.

Oh yeah, and I still have to wait to get the awards ceremony tickets, because technically I'm not a member yet. I have to wait for that awful form to go through before I can go back and fix it.

IBMA, if you need my services in redesigning your site, I can cut you a deal. Of course, living in a glass house, I shouldn't throw stones. (HickoryWind.org is definitely not the best site I've ever designed... but in the immortal words of "Middle-Aged Man" -- "I'm working on it!")
