Who Is This Guy?
Posted by Justin Gage at August 29, 2006 6:23 AMWhy hello there. My name is Justin and beginning today I'll be your occasional tour guide here at the old Hickory Wind saloon. I originally found this joint a little over a year ago while searching for an online haven for folks who enjoyed a little twang in their diet.
Speaking of, here's a little about my own musical diet: I live in the Los Feliz neighborhood of L.A. and run a small bedroom record label focused on indie roots music. I write music album/artist/show reviews, etc. for various publications under different pen names. I also write an audio blog that goes by the name An Aquarium Drunkard. A.D. features anything I am listening to at the time, from old soul & r&b, to George Jones, to lo-fi Will Oldham projects. As long as it feels real, you'll probably find me both listening and endorsing it.
Per my involvement here, I will steer my contributions within to focus on artists who work the Americana/Roots/Country/Folk angle, and I'll try and throw in a few surprises within the genres to keep everyone on their toes.
That's about it for an introduction – let's have some fun. By the way, did you folks know that you can get Hee Haw! on DVD now??
- Justin
Welcome Justin! I've always enjoyed reading A D., so I can't wait to read what you post here.
Speaking of Hee-Haw, they've started running the show in syndication on CMT. I used to watch the show way back when, but I definitely enjoy it a lot more now as both an adult and a musician.

And yes, I netflixed the first Hee-Haw disc a few weeks ago... whoa... flashback. And not in the good way.
It was interesting in a nostalgic sort of way, reminded me of playing in the living room floor of my Papaw's house, but overall I really didn't enjoy it. The music was good, but the performances were phony lip-syncing deals.
I'd urge you to spend your money on Andy Griffith show DVDs instead. Now talk about some entertainment staying power! ("Dooley had two daughters and a forty-gallon still...")
