REM TO REUNITE (FOR A FEW MINUTES)

Posted by Stacy Chandler at September 5, 2006 9:50 PM

Don't blink or you'll miss it. The full REM -- drummer Bill Berry included -- will play three songs in the ceremony for their induction into the Georgia (woooo!) Music Hall of Fame. Also potentially in the works, according to Billboard.com, is a recording for a not-yet-announced charity project. And then work will begin on a brand, spanking new album, presumably with REM back to a trio. But you never know.

I used to be the biggest REM fan around, but over the past five years or so, just haven't cared anymore.

I still loving singing "Driver 8" as a Bluegrass song with the Right Turn Clydes, though. ;-)

I still love listening to Murmur, Reckoning, and all the other old albums, but then again I only discovered them a few years ago after raiding my dad's cd collection.

If Warners wants to pay REM zillions to keep churning out garbage, good luck to 'em. I'd do the same in their position. But on the most charitable of assessments, their last decent record was New Adventures in Hi-Fi (1995-ish).
