New releases: Oct. 17, 2006

It's starting to cool off finally (at least where I am), and seemingly so is the onslaught of new must-have CDs vying for your hard-earned dollar, euro, yen, pound or whatever. Only one real standout this week, but it's a good'un: Guy Clark's "Workbench Songs," as reviewed right here by our own dear Sean.

Here's the full list of interesting offerings coming out the week of Oct. 17, 2006:
Guy Clark -- Workbench Songs (Dualtone)
Vince Gill -- These Days (MCA Nashville)
An astonishingly indulgent FOUR-CD set of new material. I include it here because ol' Vince has some pretty impressive guests amid these 43 songs, including the Del McCoury Band, Rodney Crowell, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris and a duet with the aforementioned Guy Clark. I can't imagine there's no filler here, but it looks like there may be some gems, too.
The Sadies -- [Soundtrack] Tales of the Rat Fink (Yep Roc)
The soundtrack to the much-hyped Ed "Big Daddy" Roth documentary. More info on what that's all about here (I admit I didn't know).

And, if you're feeling merry (though I would contend it's too goddamn early for that), two holiday releases of note:
Rhonda Vincent -- Beautiful Star: The Christmas Collection (Rounder)
Sarah McLachlan -- Wintersong (Arista)
