New releases: Nov. 14, 2006
Posted by Stacy Chandler at November 10, 2006 9:46 AMI treated myself to some new stereo speakers today, and it looks like I'm going to have some decent new stuff to listen to on them come next week. Sweeeet.
New releases for Nov. 14, 2006:
Damien Rice -- 9 (Warner Bros.)
Nickel Creek -- [CD + DVD] Reasons Why: The Very Best (Sugar Hill)
Now, see? I get freaked out when they say they're "taking a break" after 2007, but then they try to soothe me by telling interviewers "oh, it's no big deal, probably temporary, etc." And then this. A greatest hits album. See you, Nickel Creek. It's been fun. Sighhhh.
Nanci Griffith -- Ruby's Torch (Rounder)
Nanci glams it up a bit with an album of covers, backed by orchestra.
Yusuf (the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens) -- An Other Cup (Atlantic/WEA)
Sure, it's a "spiritually themed" album, so it might be more about the faith than the music, but damn, it's his first album of new stuff since 1978, so you can't help but be a bit excited.
Marah -- [Live, CD + DVD] Sooner or Later in Spain (Yep Roc)
Tenacious D -- Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (Sony)
The soundtrack to the upcoming Tenacious D movie (which I am sooooo going to see) includes guest appearances by Foo Fighter (and, of course, Nirvana alum) Dave Grohl and ... Meatloaf. You can also get a version of the soundtrack called the "Tarot Card edition." Yessss!
Asleep at the Wheel -- Live from Austin, TX (New West)
Emmylou Harris and Carl Jackson -- I've Always Needed You (Music Avenue)
Looks to be a reissue of some early duet work. Album also features Ricky Skaggs and Jerry Douglas, among others.
One more thing. It's Veterans Day in the U.S., and I just wanted to raise a metaphorical glass to those who choose to serve their country (and to those back in the day who didn't have a choice). My dad's a vet, and so are some of you, I'm guessing. And although I'm a civilian, I work among members of the U.S. military every day and know they sacrifice a lot. So thanks. I hope all you HW.org rounders will find time in your busy playlist today to spin a song that makes you well up with pride, or thanksgiving, or whatever.
Any suggestions?
For everyone overseas right now, or stuck on post away from kin and friends - thank you.
I'll be out at the Veterans Day Live Music Festival at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum Sate Park in Superior, Arizona tomorrow.
My wife Alice got together with some Arizona officials and started this back in 2001. She came up with the idea early that year as a way to honor vets, got it approved in August, and - well, you know, the world kinda changed that year, and it has become a regular event.
It is one way to pay our respects, in an awesome venue. Check out some pics of the place at

The Marah DVD is *really* good.
Posted by: HeyMamaRockMe at November 13, 2006 4:00 PMI was at the Marah show in which the DVD was filmed and it was really wild. Also, I was given an advanced copy some months ago and it is great stuff, no surprise
Regards from Madrid!!
