Calling all gadget geeks

So early reviews I'm hearing about the Zune, Microsoft's supposed answer to the iPod, are that it sucks. Anyone here try it? I'd be interested to know.

I'm a member of the iCult, admittedly, but I hate myself for it. Apple stopped supporting my 1st generation iPod a mere two years after it was made. It worked fine, but there were no accessories -- iTrip, wiring of any kind, not even cute clothes -- of any kind to be had. I bought a new one a year ago, and it's been great -- aside from the scratched-up screen (annoying since I keep it in an Apple-manufactured iPod sock religiously) and its occasional unwillingness to cooperate with my efforts to turn the damn thing off. Still, I love it. But I confess I've got a wandering eye.

Apparently though, if the above-linked stories are to be believed, the Zune might not be worth a fling. Well, maybe an actual one. Like out a window ...

First generation of any mass-produced product = bad quality. First generation of any mass-produced ELECTRONIC device = unbelievable bad quality.

You were an unwitting "early adopter," Stacy. You just didn't get to enjoy what most early adopters live for -- getting their toy first. You bought someone else's toy, but you had to put up with the quirks, the bugs, and the premature lack of product support. Sorry. :-/

As for the Zune... it's going to be a long, long time before you pull my iPod from my cold, dead fingers.

I'd argue that the lack of product support is an ongoing thing with Apple. Seen any accessories for your iPod mini lately?
