New releases: Nov. 28, 2006

Posted by Stacy Chandler at November 24, 2006 7:00 AM

Much like the rest of us, the music industry is apparently in a turkey coma -- nothing at all (to speak of) is slated for release next week.

Which is fine, really, because it's getting about time to start thinking about your year-end "Best of 2006" lists, and at this point late entries just start make a mess of things, am I right? We'll be posting "best of" entries like crazy closer to the new year -- and we'll want your input, too. So start thinking about what's turned you on this year (music only please -- any other turn-ons can be addressed at plenty of other Web sites), and be ready to share with the entire class about a month from now.

Stacy,

I checked out your post from 11/21 and didn't see any mention of these releases that may interest some of the music lovers here. I'm not sure if this site sticks solely to Americana-type music, but I did happen to see the new U2 release on last week's list, so hopefuly I'm safe. ;)

The Doors "Perception" box set: All 5 of the Doors albums completely remastered both on CD and on DVD. The DVDs include 24-bit/96kHz high resolution audio (stereo/5.1) as well as Dolby Digital and DTS surround mixes for play on any DVD player. They also videos and live performances. All of the albums also contain previously unreleased material.

J.J. Cale/Eric Clapton "The Road To Escondido": Mostly J.J.Cale penned tunes with EC and J.J. splitting the vocal and guitar duties (vocals are mostly EC).

The Beatles "Love": An album created by Sir George Martin and his son, Giles for the Beatles "Love" Cirque Du Soleil show. This album contains mash-ups of a huge number of Beatles tunes and is complete with remastered sound of many Beatles classics. There is a deluxe edition also available which contains a bonus DVD that has Dolby Digital and DTS surround remixes as well as a high resolution (24-bit/96kHz) 5.1 surround mix.

If anyone gives me "Love" by the Beatles for Christmas, please include the receipt so I can return it.
I'm sure George, John and Paul are rolling in their graves.

Thanks RJ -- I just try to include "good" music, whatever genre, on the list. But sometimes I miss some, so additions are welcome!

Amanda already handed me the assist on Clapton/Cale in the comments -- I think it was from that week's post. Definitely I would have put that in if I'd spotted it! I think it can safely qualify as good.

Almost makes me want to find Wayne Newton's version of Michelle. Almost.
