I realize this isn't news ...

... but Ryan Adams is a crazy mo-fo.

According to AOL's Music News Blog, he's released eight -- count 'em, eight -- new albums on his Web site recently.

I haven't had a spare seven hours since hearing the news to check it out, so I'll just have to hope that somewhere on there he recorded that wonderful rap ditty from his site's opening page. And if he recorded "Hickory Wind" like we found on Youtube? Possibly it would all be worth it.

UPDATE: Oh wait, never mind. I just browsed titles on the new albums (under names like DJ Reggie and The Shit), and nary a "Hickory Wind" to be found. But there is "Asteroids Suck," "Get Scared, Throw Up, Die" and "Accidentally Hot as Fuck," so thank god for that.

Thanks to the lovely and dangerous Karen for bringing this news to my attention.

Hmmm, with names like that, it makes me want to *rush* right out and grab them.

I love ya, Ryan, but chill, dude. Chill.

So "Get Scared, Throw Up, Die" - is that a tribute tune to Paris Hilton?

She barfed up about a pint of Grey Goose in Vegas recently. Hope it didn't eat the varnish off the stage...

and vanish off the stage too....

While I would normally welcome an abundance of songs from an artist, Ryan Adams has been getting out of hand as of late. Since he went on last year's tear, IMO, his CDs have gotten progressively worse. I love "Cold Roses" but "Jacksonville Nights" seemed somewhat uninspired and "29" is just plain unlistenable. He needs to take some time off, experience life, rest up and come back with some wicked stuff.

hey there - a recent convert to the HicoryWind ways (enjoying my stay immensely by the way, found my way over as a regular over at the majesty that is aquariumdrunkard) and felt inclined to toss in my two cents. In no way will I ever argue that Ryan isn't a crazy and overly-prolific arsehole nutjob, but I found myself quite impressed with all three of last months, er years releases. At first I was disappointed with all of them and disparaged my whiskeytown brethren --- but after taking some time off, and then re-visiting I've actually found myself returning to all three but esp Jacksonville Nights quite a bit... and while 29 took a bit more warming up, it hasn't left the player in several days (quite an accomplishment with my MTV-based 10 second attention span). I'll agree that had he spent a little more time and really developed a few of the songs he would have had a stellar single album, but that wouldn't be our old friend batshitcrazy boy now would it, and instead I have three enjoyable albums to bide my time until the next six releases come out, next month....

Alex, thanks for sticking around! Yeah, I loved Cold Roses immediately, but it took a while for Jacksonville to really warm up. But warm up it has. 29, on the other hand... blech. But that's Ryan. He's all over the place.

Considering Ryan Adam's career trajectory so far, I shudder to think what the former boy wonder will be doing in ten years.

I think Jackosville is his best album since "Heartbreaker" (unless you count 48 Hrs.)

Posted by: patrickhayes at November 30, 2006 8:55 PM

Jackosville? Was that the duets disc he did with Michael Jackson?

Posted by: Hal at November 30, 2006 9:03 PM

i think you either love jacksonville or hate it, and for those who feel the former, i don't think any of us fell in love with it immediately. and as far as where he will be in 10 years? call me crazy, but i can totally envision a wise sober songsmith. what do yall think?

Releasing 8 online discs of "music" on a fan website indicates either a heavy drug problem or a truly bizarre sense of humor. I predict a less happy ending than Trey (I hope I'm wrong).

Disclaimer: I am (was?) a fan. I have bootlegs were Ryan performs songs he wrote on a napkin in the bar just before the show. There is (was) some genius there but what will he do with it?

Question: Has anyone listened to all/most/more than I did of the online releases? Are there some diamonds there or is it all as bad as the half dozen tracks I sampled?

to answer your question, Hal, no, there isn't really anything there you can add to Ryan's catalog of great songs. BUT DJ Reggie, omg, is hilarious stuff.

Wandering off topic..........

thanks Hal, i, err, noticed our *similarities*, hope you don't think i am borrow too much from you, but it IS a template ...

Posted by: trey at December 2, 2006 11:55 AM

Trey, actually, I think it's *Amanda* you have the similarities to, site-wise, but like you said, it's a template. (So was this on HW.org, originally... eek!)

I thought we were talking about the groovy hipster Texas music connection?!
Wesite, template........that is all gibberish to me.
