Tift Merritt Leaves Lost Highway
Posted by Larry Karnowski at December 4, 2006 8:00 AMGet the scoop at David Menconi's blog. (Beware the crappy flash pop-up ads. Dang, News and Observer, get with the program! Those are old-school crappy!)
"We are in talks regarding a new home and we are really excited about our next step," said Merritt in Menconi's article. Sounds like polite biz-speak for "they let me go and I'm looking for something else as soon as possible."
Hang in there, Tift, and please go back to singing country. Thanks! (Seriously, I hope she gets picked up somewhere good. Sugar Hill, maybe?)
Lost Highway is rapidly losing my respect. First the drop Kim Richey. Now Tift.
Posted by: Carlton at December 4, 2006 11:38 AMBummer, Tift. Good luck out there, all that talent deserves a good home!!
And yes, return to the fold, little one, and embrace "le Twang"...
Posted by: Jim Pipkin at December 4, 2006 12:55 PMGuess Grammy nominations aren't worth much to labels...
Posted by: Shane O'Donnell at December 4, 2006 4:45 PMNow if she can just lose Ethan Johns..........
Posted by: Hal at December 5, 2006 3:16 PMYeah, what's up, Lost Highway? They drop good artists, they can't spell (a Lucinda Williams promo on the front page of their site for MONTHS said she wrote a "forward" to someone's book), and for a while this year they were giving their artists myspace pages as "official" Web sites.
You'd think it was run by two stoned dudes out their basement, not a big-ass corporation.

Posted by: Jim Pipkin at December 7, 2006 10:19 AMI met Tift recently and I found her to be one of the most down to earth people I've ever met. Couple that with her great talent, and she is going to be just fine!
