Son Volt energized

Jay Farrar and Co. have a new CD in the works! It's called "The Search," and it's out March 6, and I am happy.

Not sure I like this bit from the press release: "The Search is a startlingly powerful and inspiring departure from the band's alt-country laden records," but I choose to ignore it for now.

UPDATE: Sorry, that should say "THE GLORIOUS Jay Farrar and Co ..." I shall listen to 50 "Terroir Blues" for pennance. Sweet!

"Departure" what? Yeah, I'm just going to pretend I didn't hear that either.

Didn't someone say the same thing about "Cold Roses" early on?

So what, Jay's getting ambitious and wanting to start earning money, or what?

"Instrumentally, the electric guitar was the focus of the last record Okemah, but for The Search we wanted to try something new. This time, we utilized different instrumentation to fit each song -- from guitar pedal loops to various keyboard sounds to horns."

I really am nervous about what this sounds like here......
"Okemah..." was such an amazing record, not unlike "Trace" in it's scope, that I hate to see Jay intentionally trying to get away from that.

But if the songs are there.......

Guitar pedal loops! I've heard rumors it was produced by Robert Fripp and Brian Eno.

You know, I never took to "Okemah." It just didn't ring true to me as a Son Volt record. (Also, I'm not a huge fan of political music. I respect it, and sometimes dig it, but there's got to be something more.)

The best track from the "Okemah" sessions (Joe Citizen Blues) was left off the disc.
