I feel sad

Christmas was just a little less merry this year, with news that James Brown ascended to that great big funky place in the sky.

There's a nice remembrance here, with references to a Washington, D.C., show last year. NPR has posted its recording of that show, in case you wanna get funky.

While we're remembering the Godfather of Soul, I'd like to ask a simple (or is it?) question: What's your favorite James Brown song?

Comments

Its tough to pick a favorite James Brown song since there are so many greats. One that I've currently got in my head is "I Got The Feelin'". Try not to groove to that one. Impossible.

"And there were James Brown records sitting in the ground 50 million years ago....."
(from Interviews/T-Bone Burnett)

I'll cheat and pick a favorite James Brown disc: "Live at the Apollo".

I always figured he'd kick off onstage, what a genius. Not a very cool Christmas present, but then again you wouldn't expect the Godfather to check out on some ordinary day.
