BRMC back, or are they?
Posted by Stacy Chandler at January 30, 2007 10:02 PMBillboard.com reports that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, whose 2005 album "Howl" made many a HickoryWinder's Top 10 list that year, are releasing a new album May 1.
Making me a little nervous, however, is the fact that they keep saying this album -- "Baby 81" -- will go in a different direction than "Howl."
"There are some songs that are kind of groove-oriented, not so blues- or country influenced [as 'Howl']," the guitarist told Billboard. Hmmmm. That, and the report that one of the album's songs is nine minutes long, makes me wonder how much I'll like this new direction. But I'm sure I'll be getting my grubby little paws on the disc as soon as possible so I can find out!
One new direction this project could go in that I definitely *would* like? A CD without gobs of "protection" that make my computer go all batty and make it a struggle to put the songs -- the ones I goddamn paid full price for like a good little minion -- on iTunes. But "Baby 81," like "Howl," is to be released by RCA, so I imagine the crap will still be around. A girl can dream, though. A girl can dream.
Stacy, yeah, I hate to tell you this, but although I loved "Howl" with all my heart... I'm thinking it was one-of-a-kind. Here's hoping, though.
