Couple of SXSW Showcases You Should Check Out
Posted by Larry Karnowski at March 6, 2007 10:30 AMSo a couple of friends of HickoryWind.org are putting together some great showcases at the upcoming South By Southwest Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas in a couple of weeks.
First, on Wednesday the 14th, our buddy Cary Baker of Conqueroo and the Guitartown folks from right here in the Research Triangle in NC are putting together a showcase at Mother Egan's Irish Pub.
Here's the rundown:
11:45-12:10 Randy Weeks
12:25-12:50 Ed Pettersen
1:05-1:30 Michelle Shocked
1:45-2:10 Scrappy Jud Newcomb
2:25-2:50 Walter Tragert
3:05-3:30 Tom Freund
3:45-4:10 Jon Dee Graham
4:25-4:50 Pam Tillis
5:05-5:30 James McMurtry
5:45-6:10 Uncle Monk featuring Tommy Ramone
6:25-6:50 The Silos
7:05-7:30 The Summer Wardrobe
7:45-8:15 Patty Hurst Shifter
8:30-9:15 Peter Case
Woohoo!
And then, extra-special good, our buddy Gregg Geil and his merry band of miscreants over at AmericanaRoots.com are putting together their own showcase at the Waterloo Ice House on Saturday, March 17th!
Here's their list:
8PM Bow Thayer
9PM Band of Heathens
10PM John D. Hale Band
11PM Wrinkle Neck Mulls
12PM Tom Gillam's Tractor Pull (full band)
Both of these shows are free! Go check em both out, and tell em "Larry sent ya!"
(Good luck Cary and Gregg! Have fun, gentlemen! Wish I could be there!)
A nice list of performers but I've never been a fan of 25 minute sets. They often leave you wanting more (or less).
Posted by: Hal at March 6, 2007 12:11 PMEven with short sets, I wish I was going to be there.
Posted by: joe at March 6, 2007 1:39 PMMe too, Joe! One of these days...
Posted by: larry at March 6, 2007 8:25 PMOooh Wrinkle Neck Mules. I love them.
Posted by: Amanda at March 7, 2007 9:20 PMI'm at mother egans now and was planning to go see the mules before I saw this post. Maybe I should check this site out, given that.
There's a Jim Boquist twin in The Silos.

I am trying to get a review of my friend Bow Thayers gigs that he did at sxsw .thanks
Bow Thayer & band put on a terrific show! I was very impressed with these guys after hearing "Spend It All" and their live show was just icing on top of the cake. Thanks to Larry for posting info on our showcase. It was a great night of Americana music in an indie rock filled town.
