"Weight" Loss

Just ran across this story and I thought you might be interested. It appears that Levon Helm - former drummer for The Band - is suing a New York ad firm over the use the Band's signature tune "The Weight" in those Cingular Wireless ads. However, its unclear from the suit whether Helm is unhappy over the commercialization of the song or if he's dissatisfied with his cut of the royalties. Either way, its a damn catchy tune!

On a related note, I haven't listened to the Drive-by Truckers' "Danko/Manuel" in a while...I think I'll do that now. If you haven't heard it, check it out. The Counting Crows did another good Band tribute called "Richard Manuel is Dead" - but I don't have it on my iPod.
