New releases: March 20, 2007

Some great tastes that go great together are coming at us next week -- and I don't mean the corned beef and Guinness I plan to consume tomorrow for St. Pat's, though those are some mighty fine tastes. No, at the moment I'm speaking of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Ray Price, recording together for the first time. Or there's your Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby. A-wha? A-who? Yep, it's like that this week.

New releases for the week of March 20:
Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Ray Price -- Last of the Breed (Lost Highway)
A double-CD set of classic country songs -- but not their own. Produced by Fred Foster, same as on Nelson's well-loved Cindy Walker tribute.
Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby -- Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby(Sony Legacy)
An interesting pairing with an interesting playlist. There's a re-do of "Mandolin Rain" with mandolin (gasp!) and in a decidedly minor key. Then there's, well, there's a cover of "Super Freak." Yeah, THAT "Super Freak." Yeah.
