I feel ... happy
Posted by Stacy Chandler at March 30, 2007 5:31 AMSlate had an interesting article this week about how CDs, like the old man in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," aren't quite dead yet. But they would, in fact, like to go on the cart. Your shopping cart, that is. It's just that retailers are going to have to change with the times and cut out a lot of the overhead and middlemen if they're going to compete with the overhead-less and middleman-less digital music business model.
Which I hope CD retailers do, because as much as my CDs clutter up the living room, I kind of like being able to touch my music. Buying an album as MP3s just doesn't do it, am I right?
As long as there is oppressive DRM, there will be people who want to buy CDs. (There might be no CDs to buy, but that's a different story.)
Posted by: larry at March 30, 2007 8:44 AMHopefully there will still be enough of us out there who, while we like the convenience of a whole record collection that fits in our pocket, still actually sit down in front of a decent sound system and actually listen to an album and therefore want the best possible quality we can get thus keeping the CD business going. I believe I should get a prize for the longest sentence ever written.
Posted by: Waylon at March 30, 2007 11:37 AMI prefer to purchase CDs and in general avoid iTUNES. I prefer to buy a physical object rather than rent some 0s and 1s that come with "oppressive DRM". I've got some rare books, vinyl and CDs that I could sell for a decent price if I could find the right collector.
Q:What is your most valuable MP3 worth?
A:$.99 and dropping.
