New releases: April 3, 2007
Posted by Stacy Chandler at March 30, 2007 7:00 AMAmong the many, many artists with new releases next week is Fountains of Wayne, which seems to me like a perfectly good band except for one thing:
"Stacy's Mom."
Because, see, my name is Stacy. And I have a mom. And when people ask me if my mom has got it going on, or tell me that they're in love with my mom, I kind of want to throw up. My mom's a nice enough lady, and maybe she was a looker in her day, but, man, that's my MOM. So hearing that song -- which in its heyday happened A LOT -- kind of makes me uncomfortable. Why couldn't FOW have been in love with, like, Amanda's mom? Or Larry's or Sean's? Damn.
But, OK. Deep breath, and I'm past it. For now. I've scanned the song titles on FOW's new release and there seems to be no further mention of me or my mom, so now there can be peace. Let's move on.
New releases of note for the week of April 3:
Chris Knight -- Trailer Tapes (Drifter's Church)
A release of early songs.
Alison Krauss -- Hundred Miles or More: A Collection (Rounder)
For the AKUS completist (my hand is raised), a CD of songs Alison (not necessarily with Union Station) recorded for various non-AKUS projects, like soundtracks (that "Cold Mountain" song) and guest appearances ("Whiskey Lullaby"). Also, five previously unreleased songs. No word on whether a certain McDonald's advertisement will be a hidden track, NOT THAT I HAVE ANY LINGERING BITTERNESS ABOUT THAT or anything.
Martin Sexton -- Seeds (Kitchen Table)
Jonatha Brooke -- Careful What You Wish For (Bad Dog)
Fountains of Wayne -- Traffic and Weather (Virgin)
Kings of Leon -- Because of the Times (RCA)
Todd Snider -- Peace, Love and Anarchy (Oh Boy)
Los Straitjackets -- Rock En Espanol, Vol. 1 (Yep Roc)
Umphrey's McGee -- Bottom Half (Sci Fidelity)
Chris Whitley/Jeff Lang -- Dislocation [U.S. release](Rounder)
Neva Geoffrey -- The Days Are Rolling (Alias)
