Los Straitjackets: Rock En Espanol, Vol I (Yep Roc)
Posted by Hal Bogerd at April 29, 2007 9:59 AMLos Straitjackets' lastest disc might not end up on your "best of list" for 2007 but I'm ready to give it my "summer album of the year" award. Los Staitjackets tear through 13 Spanish language versions (more or less Spanish, English lyrics do sneak through on several tracks) of rock gems. Assisted by Cesear Rosas and Big Sandy, the masked men rock out to "De Dia Y De Noche", "Loco Te Patina El Coco", "Dame Ena Sena" and other tracks you'll instantly recognize............. but I'm not translating. Pick up the disc and you'll be able to translate them yourself as you sing along. In case you're ready to write this off as a novelty disc, let me remind you that Johnny Cash and the Beatles rerecorded German versions of some of their songs in the early sixties. What's next? Los Straitjackets: Rock En Deutsch, Vol. I? I'd prefer Los Straitjackets: Rock En Espanol, Vol II!
Today's Trivia: "Ana" isn't a Beatles cover. "Anna, go to him" was written by Arthur Alexander who is the only songwriter covered by the Beatles, Stones, Dylan AND Los Straitjackets!
