So Ryan Adams says to Steve Earle ...

Posted by Stacy Chandler at June 18, 2007 10:51 AM

... man, I'd love to have been a fly on the wall for THAT conversation!

The New York Times gives us a snippet of that conversation as it catches up with Ryan Adams, allegedly sober, back from the brink of ... something very bad. The article is chock full of juicy anecdotes, ranging from his love life to his relationship with label Lost Highway to the details of his drug consumption and how his recent, um, musical prolificness had nothing to do with the daily speedballs. Hmmm.

The article also addresses the new album, out next week. Writer Anthony DeCurtis says:

"Easy Tiger" is a virtual case study of Mr. Adams's ability to make the sort of record that people once routinely expected of him: smart, accessible, fun, poignant and potentially commercial. It's an advertisement for the once-unthinkable possibility that, at 32 and sober, Mr. Adams might finally have matured.

I promised myself I wouldn't allow Ryan Adams any more automatic passes, after the infinite blah of "29," but dammit, I may end up snapping up "Easy Tiger" after all. Call me a sucker. We'll see.

I'm down. I'm still a sucker. (But it'll RULE! I just KNOW it!)

Still high from Cold Roses,

I heard at least four of the tracks from "Easy Tiger" and all of them are classic Ryan Adams. He's back so get your $11 ready to buy this one next week. It's gonna be excellent...mark my words!

I don't know how he survived, but I'm glad he did. Love Ryan Adams music to death - even "29" (I love how he sings "run away from the night" on the last track). Easy Tiger sounds gorgeous from the tracks I've listened to. Can't wait for next week's release.

Anne,

I have never known anyone other than myself that uses the word "gorgeous" to describe music that speaks to the soul. :)

Hey Rage - "Gorgeous" to me signifies lushness, and beauty. Ryan Adams voice is just that, beautiful - and when he sings he expresses heartfelt emotion in such a sincere and unsentimental way, I find it quite affecting.

Lucky us in Australia - Easy Tiger is out tomorrow, or officially on Saturday 23/6/07.

I managed to acquire the Live DVD today. My pet record store, knowing how much I love Ryan Adams, gave me a copy.
