I'll Sleep When I'm Dead................

I just finished reading "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead-The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon". To be accurate, by finished reading I mean stopped reading. When Warren punched out his wife Crystal for the second time I called it quits about a third of the way through the biography. As much as you might enjoy his art, and I do, the "tortured alcoholic artist" isn't someone you really want to spend time with (unless you're also a "tortured alcoholic artist") or read about. Warren Zevon, Townes Van Zandt, Jack Kerouac, etc. the list goes on and on and on.

A kinder, gentler way to "meet" older, wiser and presumably less assy Warren Zevon might be a documentary called "Keep Me In Your Heart," which I saw years ago on VH1 but imagine someone else made it. Anyway, it deals with his struggle with cancer and his preparations for dying. It's really sad, but touching, too. I don't know that much about Warren Zevon, but this was a really good documentary, I thought.

I saw the VH1 documentary and I thought it was excellent-sad and touching. The book (what I read of it) just left me sad.
