Mini-Reviews: Josh Ritter & the Everybodyfields
Posted by Larry Karnowski at August 21, 2007 8:00 AMMini-Reviews concentrate on the initial impression you get from an album -- what it sounds like, who does it remind you of, how does it make you feel?
Josh Ritter - The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter
I'm ashamed to admit I haven't listened to any Josh Ritter stuff before. After listening to this, I know that's definitely something to be ashamed of. Ritter goes from fast to slow, heavy to soft, Beatle-esque to twang, all effortlessly and intuitively. He goes where I want to follow, musically. Josh Ritter is a must-hear songwriter. Get this album!
The Everybodyfields - Nothing Is Okay
The Everybodyfields have a beautiful "dark country Gothic" sound, like a cross between Neko Case and Clem Snide, with a lot of old-school country man & woman duet vocals thrown in. Beautiful production, not too lush, never too stark. Another winner from Ramseur Records (home of the Avett Brothers, one of my faves). Recommended.
Thanks for reviewing theverybodyfields new record. It is gorgeous. Will be seeing them at Grimeys Music tonight.
Another top ten slot on my 2207 list that doesn't really exist since I don't usually make lists is taken thanks to "The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter".
