New releases of note for Sept. 4:

Greg Brown -- Yellow Dog [live] (Earthwork)
A live CD in earth-friendly packaging that features several new songs. Benefits Michigan's Upper Peninsula's Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve.

Suzy Bogguss -- Sweet Danger (Loyal Duchess)
Onetime "cowboy's sweetheart" takes a stab at jazz-pop.

Ferraby Lionheart -- Catch the Brass Ring (Nettwerk)

Will Kimbrough -- EP (Thirty Tigers)

Michelle Shocked -- To Heaven U Ride (Mighty Sound)
The result of an unearthed recording from Shocked's gospel set at the 2003 Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

Townes Van Zandt -- Be Here to Love Me (Fat Possum)
Townes Van Zandt -- For the Sake of the Song (Fat Possum)
The first is the "official" release of the TVZ doc of the same name -- the movie came out a few years ago, but there was some money/label weirdness with the accompanying soundtrack, I understand. This release is the one officially sanctioned by the TVZ people -- so don't I feel like an ass for buying the first one. "Sake" is a reissue of Townes very first album, recorded in 1968.

Comments

The fight over the late great Townes Van Zandt's music with the ever increasing number of posthumous releases, might lift Townes above Jimi Hendrix in the "productivity after death" category. I love Townes but do I really need another version of Pancho and Lefty?
