I Just Want My Pants Back
Posted by Hal Bogerd at September 7, 2007 12:00 AMDavid Rosen's debut novel I Just Want My Pants Back is the humorous and touching story of a young NYC hipster/slacker and his search for a job, love, the meaning of life and his pants. Sex (a nod to Henry Miller), drugs (William Burroughs would be proud) and drinking (cheers Charles Bukowski) fill Jason's time when he isn't looking for a job. Music plays an important part in setting the mood for his thoughts and misadventures. The music of Bob Dylan, AC/DC, The Clash, Hank Williams, Henry Rollins, Johnny Cash, Joey Ramone all merit passing pop culture nods. Jason hopes for a "good shuffle" in a wink at the iPOD culture.
I'm not telling how he lost his pants or if he ever gets them back. Pick up a copy if you're not one of those humorless people that sneers "I only read non-fiction". When it is made into a movie (think High Fidelity) you can tell your hipster friends "Yeah, it was okay but the book was better". If I had stumbled across this book in June I would have titled this post "The Perfect Summer Read"!
